FDNY HS is a small thematic high school whose vision is to provide a rich educational environment so that students of all achieving levels can develop academically, socially, emotionally, intellectually, and culturally. As a family, we will do this with high educational expectations and standards while implementing the core values of the NYC Fire Department. These values, service, bravery, safety, honor, dedication, and preparedness, will be evident in every aspect of the school’s actions.

Capt. Vernon A. Richard
In 2016, FDNY High School was given the honor of being named for Captain Vernon A. Richard, a firefighter killed on 9/11.
Richard, a lieutenant, perished in the South Tower along with five other members of his company, Tower Ladder 7 on Manhattan's East Side.Five days later, the FDNY posthumously promoted him to captain in a nationally televised ceremony.
